Our Mission

Black Women of Evanston (BWoE) is a community safe space dedicated to the empowerment of Black women on the NorthShore. Our focus is service, unifying the community, and self-care.

We are a vibrant community dedicated to uplifting, supporting, and celebrating local Black women. We foster sisterhood, promote wellness, and cultivate meaningful relationships.

We believe in the power of service, and we actively engage in initiatives that make a positive impact on our community. We are committed to creating a nurturing environment where Black women can thrive, grow, and support one another.

About Us

Black Women of Evanston is a community organization established in 2016 by Annette Jeter Jean-Jacques. Following her relocation to Evanston, IL, Annette sought to connect with local friends with similar interests. Driven by her passion to build a supportive network for Black women, she initiated a Facebook group to bring together fellow residents of Evanston. Over time, the group has flourished, and currently has a membership of over 750 women and continues to thrive as a hub for empowerment, connection, and advocacy.
